Ophthalmology centre opened in Hulhumale' Hospital

Funded by the Chinese government, the Ophthalmology centre established in Hulhumale' Hospital was opened on Wednesday.

In a tweet posted by the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Zhang Lizhong stated that he had received information it is now open and in service from Dr. Chen who led the medical team to set up the center.

According to Dr. Chen, 30 surgeries were completed within the first day itself.

Dr. Chen Weirong is a renowned, and experienced doctor who has committed over 30 years in the field. The Chinese Embassy revealed that she had successfully completed over 100,000 eye surgeries.

Initiated as a part of an agreement signed between the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Health to establish a "hospital assistance and cooperation program" on July 24, 2019, the centre will provide a variety of treatments related to cataracts, glaucoma, ocular surface diseases, refractive errors, and vitreous and retinal disease.
