Male’ City Council has said that they have established 11 parking zones in Male’
The capital Male’ is jam-packed with vehicles. Although there are thousands of vehicles in Male,’ appropriate parking areas are not established. Besides when vehicles are illegally parked the Police have been charging the owners with huge amounts of fines.
The public has been raising concerns over the issue. Many have been saying that it is unacceptable to fine the vehicles when parked illegally while the government has not shown a parking area. The City Council said on Thursday that they have established 11 parking areas since 2019 until to-date. In those areas, 80 or 400 vehicles can park at a time. Moreover, the City Council revealed that they will establish more parking zones in the future.
There had not been appropriate work done to establish a proper parking system during the past few years in Male’, which is heaving with motorbikes, cars, pickups, vans, and heavy vehicles. Although permits are being issued every year to import thousands of vehicles, there is no mechanism to control that matter.
Though the government has been earning in over hundreds of thousands every month as fines collected from vehicles parked illegally, the current government has said that without showing a place to park they will not fine vehicles.
Conversely, within a few days, the current government came into power, the Police have resumed placing stickers in vehicles parked illegally and fine those vehicles.
