Over 1,400 forms submitted for MDP tickets

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has revealed that their members have submitted over 1,400 forms to contest in the primary, and win a party ticket.

The submission deadline was reached Friday night, at 9:00 PM.

Vice Chairperson of MDP's Elections Committee and Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Muiz stated Friday night that over 1,400 forms had been received by the deadline. He further revealed that the candidate list of those contesting in the primary slated for the 31st of January will be revealed next Monday.

There is seemingly massive competition with the aim of attaining party tickets within certain constituencies, especially in contest for the Male', Addu, and Fuvahmulah City mayoral positions. This includes current mayors, and other powerful influences within the party.

980 councillors will be elected in this year's Local Council Elections, out of which 33% seats have been reserved for women. The elections have been slated for the 4th of April.
