The main-ruling Maldivan Democratic Party (MDP) will hand over its presidential ticket to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday night.
President Solih contested against Parliament Speaker and MDP's President, Mohamed Nasheed, in the party's primary held late last month. The President won the election by a large margin, receiving 61 percent of the vote against Nasheed's 39 percent.
MDP's Spokesperson, Anas Abdul Sattar, told AVAS that the party is working to hold a special rally at the Carnival area in Male' City on Friday night to hand over the presidential ticket to the President. The MDP has also sought permission from the Male' City Council to hold the rally.
"The carnival area has not been arranged thus far. However, the tickets will be handed over to the President on that day," Anas said.
President Solih has said winning September's Presidential Election would be easier than winning MDP's primary.
