The main ruling party MDP has opened the application for party tickets, those who wish to contest for seats of Hdh. Kulhudhuffushi city in the upcoming local council election.
The application was opened for MDP primary late December. However, since at that time, Kulhudhuffushi was not declared as a city, MDP did not open the application of the party primary for Kulhudhuffushi.
According to MDP, now they have opened the application for those who wish to contest for Kulhudhuffushi seats in the local council election with the party tickets, from Saturday until Thursday 14:00 hrs.
The local council election that is slated for 4th of April, six councillors will be elected including a mayor. The mayor will be elected with the voting of the whole city. The rest of the members will be elected with the votes of the respective constituencies.
With the recent Amendment to the Decentralization Act, 33% of the seats will be represented by women. Hence, among the six seats allocated for Kulhudhuffushi city, two seats have been designated for women.
