President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday departed to northern islands of Maldives on a campaign trail ahead of the upcoming local council election.
The president will be joining Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and other senior members of main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), who are already in the North since Sunday to campaign for the 'Agenda 19' manifesto.
The president was warmly greeted by the residents of Hdh. Neykurendhoo upon his arrival at the island on Tuesday, and will be travelling to other islands of the atoll over the next few days.
President Solih will also attend a symposium slated to be held at Hdh. Kulhudhuffushi city later this week. Following the event, he will be visiting other islands in the atoll.
The local council election will be held on April 4, 2020.
