An advertisement is published seeking a contractor to construct the airport to be established in the reclaimed area of Faresmaathodaa.
The Ministry of Finance said that they are seeking a contractor to complete the works of Faresmaathodaa airport under design and build terms and that they have advertised for it.
According to the Ministry, expression of interest can only be shown by the construction companies who have registered in line with the building construction regulation and those who meet the criteria Grade 1 of GCo2 of the mentioned guideline can submit bids for the airport development project.
An official of the Ministry of Planning said that the advertisement is published for all the unfinished work of the airport.
“Advertisement is published for seeking a contractor for laying out the runway, to build terminals and to do other works to be completed”, said the official.
A non-refundable fee of MVR 1500 will be charged as registration fee and the fee will be collected from 15th of January to 12th of February. Bid security of MVR 500,000 has to be paid.
Faresmaathodaa airport land reclamation work was initiated in the reign of former President Abdulla Yameen. The land reclamation work was completed in August 2019. This airport will also have 1.5 kilometres long runway, an apron and a passenger terminal. The land reclamation work of the airport was done by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
There are 13 airports in the Maldives; Velana International Airport (VIA), Gan International Airport (GIA) and Maafaru International Airport (MIA), in additional to Maamigili International Airport and Kooddoo Airport. Moreover, Kulhudhuffushi Airport, Hamimaadhoo International Airport, Dharavandhoo Airport, Ifuru Airport, Thimarafushi Airport, Kadhdhoo Airport and Fuvahmulah Airport. The government said 4 more airports will be established in this year. The airports in the pipeline are; Ha. Hoarafuhi Airport, Sh.Funadhoo Airport, Lh. Madivaru Airport and Gdh.Maavaarulu Airport.
