An expense of MVR 4.1 million was incurred by the Maldives delegation that visited the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly last year, it has been revealed.
Although the government previously said that the details of the trip would be publicized, the administration later refused to divulge the information. After the President's Office declined to share the details, a member of the public appealed to the Information Commissioner's Office for the details under the Right to Information Act.
The President's Office on Thursday released the information on the request of the office. According to the numbers, over MVR 2 million was incurred as expense for the US trip, and MVR 41,000 was issued as pocket money to the delegation. MVR 1.8 million was spent for food and accomodation.
