The President’s Office has disclosed that the govenrment spent MVR 2.5 million on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent visit to the United States to attend the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the President’s Office, the government spent MVR 2,455,583.01 on President Muizzu's nine-day visit to the US. This is significantly lower than the costs incurred during two official visits to the US by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih-- MVR 4.2 million in 2019 and MVR 5.2 million in 2021, both for 11-day trips.
According to reports, while in New York, one of the world’s most expensive cities, President Dr. Muizzu opted for two hotel rooms instead of a presidential suite. Additionally, the meal expenses for the delegation accompanying the President were not covered by the government.
President Dr. Muizzu's visit to the United States will benefit the Maldives in the future as the president engaged in key discussions with leaders of various countries, the President’s Office said.
