Henveyru Hulhangu MP and Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Hassan Latheef has called for resignation of those unable to comply with government policies.
On a retweet of Health Minister Abdulla Ameen stating that the circumcision of females is not one that aligns with government policies, Hassan Latheef on Saturday stated that those unable to responsibly do their jobs must resign. Further, he said that there were many who are willing to conduct themselves according to government policies.
Hassan Latheef made these remarks following an appeal presented to the Islamic Ministry by Figuhu Academy on clarifying the religious stand on circumcising females. Social Media subsequently fired up with public scorn, upon which Health Minister Ameen denied the appeal and tweeted the government's position on the matter.
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a traditional practice, still profoundly rooted in many areas within the Arabic and African regions. However, health professionals have been consistently warning people against the act.
