Murder of taxi driver: PG Office grants extension of investigation

The investigation period of the murder case of taxi driver Qasim is extended for the second time.

As per criminal law of Maldives, investigation of a criminal case shall be completed within 30 days the court makes a decision about the arrest of the criminal.

Qasim was killed with a sharp object in December 2019 and, the killer was arrested on 19th of December.
The arrested is 21-year-old Maldivian from Lh. Naifaru. He was arrested on remand and the remand period was extended on the 20th of December for 15 days. The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) granted another extension last Friday for seven days upon request of the police. The PGO has the authority to extend the period if the police requested for such an extension.

Adhuham had confessed of killing Qasim, in the police investigation and the court. However, he had said that he intended to rob Qasim and that he attacked with a knife when his attempt to rob was failed. In addition to Adhuham’s confession, the police had said that they had found several pieces of evidence in their investigation.

Adhuham who is arrested murdering Qasim is sentenced for one year and 12 days in a case of theft, last month.
