Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem was attacked on the streets of Male' City on Wednesday morning.
Police said the attack, reported near the Noor Mosque in Henveiru ward, did not involve a sharp object. It is said that the attack was carried out using a hammer.
Some reports state that Shameem, who did not have security at the time of the incident, suffered a wrist injury with a reported crack. He is currently undergoing treatment at the ADK Hospital.
Police are investigating the attack.
