An expatriate has attempted to sexually assault an 11-year-old girl from a southern island of the Maldives.
The police said that they had received a report of a foreigner attempting to sexually assault an 11-year-old girl, yet they have not arrested any person over the issue.
As per the police, the expatriate is an illegal immigrant who does not have any identification document and the matter is being investigated.
Although the police did not reveal from which island the case surfaced, they confirmed that the report was received by the Upper South Police Division. Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls are under North Police Division.
Recently sexual assault cases have surfaced much. Correspondingly, the police have arrested an expatriate over a sexual assault case of a 14-year-old boy last week Friday with a remand period of 15 days.
