Corrections once again allows families of inmates to send clothing

Maldives Correctional Service has resumed the arrangement of allowing families of prisoners to send clothing to inmates.

The arrangement was put on hold on October 15, 2017 after recurring attempts to smuggle in drugs into the prison by hiding them in the items.

Two year later, the cancellation was revoked on Sunday. New regulations have been established to prevent such incidents of drug smuggling in the future, and if any prohibited material are attempted to be smuggled into the prison, Maldives Police Service will be immediately alerted, and subsequent action will be taken against offenders, said Corrections.

Corrections made the aforementioned arrangement as recommended under the "Maldives Jail Audit Report 2019". The authority will be accepting clothes at the reception of Male' Prison every Saturday from 9:00 - 14:00 hrs.
