State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has commenced a tree planting programme in Thilafushi under the government's "Rah Fehi" initiative.
The programme commenced on Saturday morning. Medhu Henveiru MP Ali Azim inaugurated the programme.
Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of STELCO, Hassan Mughnee said that the programme will be held annually under the government's "Rah Fehi" initiative. He further stated that the programme will be conducted in all 35 of the company's power houses.
Mughnee revealed that their internal departments will be ranked based on the amount, diversity, and beauty of the trees planted. Employees will also be individually recognized and granted awards on their ability to nurture the trees.
Having planted 2,000 trees under the programme last year, STELCO has announced their plans to plant 3,000 this year.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih initiated "Rah Fehi" as a part of his 100 days pledge to improve the environment protection exercises of Maldives. The initiative was launched in the year 2018.
