Coronavirus screening done on passengers in cruise liners: HPA

Tourists that arrived the Maldives in three cruiseliners have been screened for coronavirus.

According to a tweet publicized by Health Protection Agency on Saturday night, the passengers in the three cruise liners moored off Male’ have been thermally screened, and none of them need to be isolated.

On Saturday, 984 passengers that arrived on cruise ship MS Marco Polo were screened. This includes 643 crew members and 341 passengers. While eight exhibited symptoms of fever, none were isolated as they had not been to China over the past 14 days.o

Moreover, 1034 people that arrived f]on MS Nautica cruise liner were also screened on Saturday. Two passengers on the vessel had symptoms of fever.

Furthermore, last Thursday, 2460 people that arrived on MS Costa Victoria ship were also screened. While 12 people had symptoms of fever, none were isolated.

The government has banned arrivals from China and have suspended direct inbound flight from China as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus pandemic that originated China and spread across the globe. Even though no infected case has been identified in the Maldives, the government has made arrangements such that the test for the virus can be taken in the Maldives. Previously, tests were done by sending samples to India.
