Horizon Fisheries and Blueyou Consulting have teamed up to install water purifiers on fishing vessels of L. atoll.
The project was initiated under efforts to minimize the use of plastic.
Resident Project Manager of Blueyou Consultancy, Abdulla Shakir Mohamed said an average of 45 cases of disposable water bottles are used by the fishing vessels of Laamu atoll. The project would decrease the use of single-use plastic bottles, he said.
Water-purifiers will be installed on fishing vessels that register for the 'Fair Trade' programme conducted jointly by Horizon and Blueyou. Water purifiers have already been installed on two fishing vessels of L. Hithadhoo under their pilot project.
