Covid19: govt decides to cease schools' extracurricular activities

A circular sent to the schools signed by Education Minister Dr Aishath Ali states that to reduce the chance of the Maldives getting infected with Covid-19, the government is painstakingly taking several precautionary measures.

Thus. to protect children from the virus, after a meeting held with the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s technical team, it has been decided to suspend all the extracurricular activities.

Also, it stated that with the suggestion from the task force of Covid-19, Education Ministry would continue getting technical advice from HPA.

Furthermore, based on the extent of the virus spread and conditions, the ministry will get technical advice from HPA’s technical team. If such a situation arises to close the schools, the ministry will inform the schools.

The virus that originated from the Wuhan city of China has now spread to various corners of the world, infecting 61 countries. As per the reports, 2900 people have died in the disease while 85,000 people have shown positive for the virus.
