President constitutes the ‘Child and Family Protection Services'

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Sunday constituted the ‘Child and Family Protection Services.’ The new agency was established as per Article 60 (a) of the Child Rights Protection Act, said the President’s Office.

According to the President’s Office, the law, which came into effect on 20 February 2020, stipulates the establishment of the agency within 30 days of the new Child Rights Protection Act coming into force, under the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services. The new agency is mandated with the responsibilities of protecting all children from discrimination, bias, harm, cruel punishment, neglect and physical and emotional abuse.

With the establishment of the agency, the responsibilities of protecting the rights of children previously assumed by the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services would now be undertaken by the agency, further stated the President’s Office.
