Will be detrimental if MDP fails to secure Male' majority: Nasheed

Speaker of the Parliament and main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that it will be highly disadvantageous if MDP fails to win Male' city seats in the upcoming local council election. Nasheed made the remark during a meeting with Male' constituents.

Nasheed said the damages that will be caused if MDP is unable to attain majority seats in the Male' City Council will be very clear to the residents of the city. He promised that MDP would fulfill all pledges, and noted that their Agenda19 manifesto effectively addresses the housing issues faced by the residents of Male'. The party will continue to work towards achieving the goals, assured Nasheed.

During last night's meeting, the former president of Maldives heavily criticized the opposition mayoral candidate, former housing minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The local council election is slated for April 4.
