Council Election: no request to postpone election

Elections Commissions (EC) has stated that there has not been any indication to postpone the upcoming local council election.

The Vice President of opposing Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM), MP Ahmed Shiyam on Tuesday said on Twitter that he was aware that main-ruling Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) would request EC to postpone the elections.

With regard to Shiyam’s tweet, Vice President of EC Ahmed Akram told AVAS that such a request has not been sent to EC.

The local council election is slated for April 4.

EC has been preparing for the election while candidacy application is now closed. In this election, the most competitive parties are MDP and PPM.
