One from Reethi Rah Resort in isolation; island on temporary lockdown

A person in One and Only Reethi Rah Resort has been isolated after he developed symptoms of COVID-19.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has initiated temporary restrictive measures on the island until results confirm if the individual is infected with the virus.

Six people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives thus far. Two expatriate employees at Kuredu Island Resort contracted the infection from an Italian tourist who had recently holidayed at the island. Said tourist had tested positive for the virus upon his return to Italy.

Two other Italian tourists at the resort have also tested positive for the virus. Additionally, two tourists at Sandies Bathala Island Resort were also confirmed to have the virus, bringing the total number of infected persons to six.

Both islands have been placed on lockdown, and an 'Orange' level alert has been issued to the islands, while the rest of the country is on 'Yellow' alert.
