The government has said the tourism sector employers should provide a safe working environment for their employees.
In a news conference held at the Dharubaaruge on Wednesday, the government’s spokesperson Mabrook Azeez has said that they have sent a circular to the resorts and other employers of the tourism sector.
Mabrook has said, they remind the employers of the tourism sector to honour the Employment Act as it will make life easier for both the employers and employees in this challenging situation. Furthermore, it is hoped that all the employers will provide a safe working environment for the employees and that the rights of employees will not be neglected.
“This is the government’s stand over the issue [employees of tourism sector],” said Mabrook.
The employees of the resorts' main concern is the management of the resorts does not allow them to wear masks and gloves and that this exposes them to a risky situation. They have been raising the concern on social media.
