U.S aids efforts to manage COVID-19

The United States of America has donated equipment to the Maldives to aid in its efforts to manage the current COVID-19 outbreak.

The U.S Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Alaina B. Teplitz revealed on social media platform Twitter that the U.S has provided Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) with over 400 coveralls, booties and gloves to assist the efforts to manage COVID-19. The items were provided on the request of MNDF, she said.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had earlier revealed that the archipelago has received signals that it would receive aid from friendly nations.

In this regard, a team of medical experts from neighbouring India arrived in the Maldives on Friday to assist Maldives in tackling the COVID-19 outbreak. The team consists of anesthesiologists and pulmonologists as well as physicians and laboratory technicians. India will also be donating medicines.

Nine people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives thus far.
