COVID-19: Reethi Beach Resort in lockdown for monitoring

Following the detection of a suspected case of Covid-19, Reethi Beach Resort is in lockdown for testing the victim and to monitor the situation of the resort.

The victim is a foreigner who is now placed in home isolation.

At the moment 13 resorts are in lockdown. That are; Ruh Island Resort, Sheraton Island Resort, Olhuveli Resort, Dreamland Maldives.

In addition, Kuredhdhu Island Resort, Bathala Island Resort, Kurmathi Island Resort, Summer Island Resort, Vilamendhoo Resort, Reethirah Resort, Iruveli Resort, Sangeli and Six Senses Resort. In these resorts as well suspected cases were identified however, their test results have not come back yet - all are foreigners.

As of now, 10 people have tested positive for the virus and the government has declared a public health emergency in the Maldives since Thursday. Subsequently, on Saturday the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has undertaken three main cautionary measures.

In that regard, HPA has banned arrival of tourists to guest houses and hotels in the capital city, Male’, banned arrivals of tourists from resorts to the islands, and urged to close universities and educational institutes for two weeks Moreover, schools reopening has been delayed for a week, after first term holiday.
