COVID-19: India's donation of essential medicines arrives Maldives

The medicines donated by India to assist Maldives to combat against COVID-19 have arrived in the Maldives on Saturday.

According to a tweet published by the Indian High Commission in the Maldives, India has donated essential medicines for three months. The Indian government has also sent a medical team who arrived on Friday and are working with the medical authorities.

The medical experts and doctors from India met with Health Minister Ameen on Friday.

Health Minister Ameen said discussions were held on the assistance the medical team from India will provide. There are doctors, specialists such as anaesthetists, physicians and laboratory technicians.

While 10 people have been detected in the Maldives infected with the virus, all of them are foreigners. Subsequently, the government has declared public heal emergency for 30 days for the first time in the Maldives, on Thursday.

At the moment 13 resorts are in lockdown and from 18:00 hours on Saturday, it has been banned travel to and from any resort in the Maldives.
