COVID-19: IGMH opens opportunity for retired health professionals

The government’s main hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), has opened an opportunity for medical field professionals who are retired/residing at home to join the hospital.

A statement issued on Thursday states that due to COVID-19, they have opened an opportunity for retired doctors/health care workers staying at home to come out for work.

Moreover, such health professionals are always ready to help in situations of the national health crisis, and the hospital urges such people to join the work.

The announcement further requests those who are interested, to call to the number 7980282 that is designated for the purpose and obtain further information.

Recently, the Health Minister Abdulla Ameen also urged the health professionals staying at home for various reasons to join the work. The Minister said at this crucial time it is highly advisable for such people to come out and join the work rather than staying at home. Minister Ameen has also requested such people to register with the Health Ministry.

"This is the time the health professionals staying at home should help the country rather than staying at home. I humbly request the employees of the health sector who are on leave also at this time to join back to work and serve the nation”, said Health Minister,

The government of Maldives has declared a public health emergency for 30 days in the Maldives, due to COVID-19 that has been declared as a pandemic by the WHO. Subsequently, some retired health professionals, as well as those who were staying at home for various reasons, have joined the government's combat to contain the virus.
