Eight out of the 13 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives have recovered from the illness.

While the government had previously confirmed that five individuals who had tested positive for the virus have now recovered, the country's president during a press conference held Wednesday revealed that three additional patients have made a full recovery. With total recoveries at 8, the total number of active cases in the Maldives is now at 5.

THe Health Protection Agency (HPA) said all three individuals were declared free of the virus after two tests confirmed that no longer had traces of the virus in their system. The government did not reveal the details on the three newly recovered patients.
