Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed, a second Maldivian has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to HPA, the second Maldivian victim is someone who has returned from the United Kingdom. The person is tested positive after being quarantined in the Royal Island Quarantine Facility. However, no further detail is provided on the matter yet.
While this is the second local, who is tested positive for the virus, the previous person was also tested positive after returning from the United Kingdom. With the new case, the total number of people who have tested positive in the Maldives is now 17.
Among the people who have contracted the virus, currently, four people are in treatment while the others have recovered, but they are still quarantined for 30-days as per the protocols.
Following the detection of COVID-19 in the Maldives, the government has been taking stringent measures. In that regard, issuance of on-arrival visas have been suspended, and tourist arrival has been banned as well. Moreover, schools and government offices have been closed until the end of this week. Besides, dine-in services offered in cafes and restaurants in Male’ region have been banned.
Furthermore, congregational prayers in mosques have been ceased temporarily, cinemas and recreational facilities have been closed in Male’ region.
