COVID-19: Number of positive cases likely to increase

The National Emergency Operations Center has warned that the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives is likely to increase in the upcoming days.

The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of the National Emergency Operations Center provided technical advise to the government, after which the cabinet decided to extend the closure of schools and government offices by an additional week.

Although government offices are to remain closed, the cabinet decided that arrangements will be made such that mandatory work can be completed by relevant employees from home. All necessary services and other essential work of the government will still be carried out with the minimum number of employees if needed, the cabinet agreed.

18 people have tested for COVID-19 in the Maldives thus far. The number of current active cases is three, all of whom are locals who returned to the archipelago from the United Kingdom.
