Doctor at Royal Island placed in isolation

The government has revealed that a doctor has been placed in isolation after developing symptoms of COVID-19.

Government spokesperson on COVID-19 related matters, Mabrook Azeez said a doctor working in the frontlines at Royal Island Quarantine Facility exhibited symptoms of the virus. Efforts are underway to test him for the virus, said Mabrook.

The doctor placed in isolation is a foreign doctor working at Royal Island. A person has previously tested positive for the virus from the same island.

Mabrook said any doctors or health care workers who exhibit even the slightest symptoms are immediately placed in isolation and tested. While 15 individuals are currently in isolation, 866 people are at quarantine facilities.

18 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives thus far. While 15 are foreigners, the remaining three individuals are locals who traveled back to the archipelago from the United Kingdom.
