WHO’s Regional Director, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh held a video conference meeting with the Health Ministers of South-East Asia.
The meeting was initiated by Dr Poonam to share information about the measures being taken by the governments to contain the COVID-19 pandemic that is escalating across the globe. The meeting was attended by Health Ministers of 11 countries of South-East Asia.
Speaking in the video conference meeting held April 2, Dr Poonam said she was glad to have met with 11 ministers of the region and thanked all the countries for assisting the Maldives in situations of health crises.
During the meeting, Health Minister Abdulla Ameen shared with her the measures taken by the government of the Maldives to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the archipelago. Minister Ameen said the purpose of the meeting was to strengthen measures taken, to be more prepared, to discuss any additional assistance needed, and to obtain WHO ‘s advice on the situation.
WHO’s technical experts also shared their work regarding the coronavirus outbreak.
