The National Emergency Operation Centre has revealed that 325 people have been released from COVID-19 quarantine facilities thus far.
Speaking at a press conference held Wednesday night, the Spokesperson of the National Emergency Operation Centre, Mabrook Azeez said those who complete the mandatory 14-day quarantine are being released after two tests are undertaken to confirm they are not infected with COVID-19.
In this regard, 325 individuals have been released from quarantine facilities thus far, including 28 people who were released on Wednesday, said Mabrook. 200 additional people are ready for release, and are awaiting the results of their samples, he added.
While a large number of people in quarantine facilities have already been released, batches of incoming Maldivian nationals repatriated from Sri Lanka, Malaysia and India are being newly quarantined. This includes 100 people who arrived from Sri Lanka, 200 that arrived from India and 197 that arrived from Malaysia.
Maldives has recorded 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19 thus far. Out of these, six cases are currently active, while the remaining patients have recovered from the illness. Two active cases are of foreigners who have already departed from the Maldives, and the remaining four are all locals who returned to the archipelago from the United Kingdom.
