Maldivian in Malaysia tests positive for COVID-19

Malaysian Health Ministry has revealed that a Maldivian national in Malaysia has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to information dessimated by the health minister, 416 foreigners in Malaysia have tested positive for the virus in addition to Malaysian nationals. This includes one Maldivian.

Maldives' Foreign Ministry said it has not received any official communication that a Maldivian national had tested positive in Malaysia, and are currently working to confirm the reports.

197 Maldivians in Malaysia were repatriated earlier on Thursday. All arrivals are currently completing a mandatory 14-day quarantine. Arrangements are underway to repatriate more Maldivian nationals stranded abroad.

Maldives has recorded 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19 thus far. Out of these, six cases are currently active, while the remaining patients have recovered from the illness. Two active cases are of foreigners who have already departed from the Maldives, and the remaining four are all locals who returned to the archipelago from the United Kingdom.
