COVID-19: Number of cases in Maldives tops 100

24 additional people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the capital Male’ over the past 24 hours.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the newly tested positive cases to be of 18 foreigners and 6 locals. This brings the total number of positive cases to 110 and the total number of infected persons in the Male’ region to 93. One case was identified in Ha. Uligam.

The first case of local transmission was detected in the Maldives 45 days after the detection of the first case of COVID-19 from a resort. The numbers have been rising rapidly since then.

Male region has been placed a 14-day lockdown as a measure to contain the spread of the virus. Travel in between the islands has also been suspended along with several other restrictions.
