The police have revealed that they are monitoring 18 buildings that house over 800 expatriates. Authorities fear the residences may become hotspots for COVID-19 transmission due to their congested nature.
In a news brief held at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), Assistant Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen said the government has been continuously working to restrain the spread of the virus in congested accommodations. Under the efforts, 18 such places where a total of 837 expatriates reside are now being monitored by the police, said Naveen. Naveen further said although there are some illegal immigrants living in the residences, the current focus is to contain the spread of the disease.
The Health Protection Agency has been working to identify if there are infected cases at the locations.
