A COVID-19 screening programme was carried out at the labour quarters of migrant workers that are being monitored by the police.
According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), a mobile medical operation programme was conducted for the expatriate workers residing in labour quarters that are under police surveillance.
HPA's epidemiologist Dr Nazla said that the programme was carried on Sunday morning, and 80 expatriate workers were screened under the programme. She further said the necessary medical assistance has been provided for them.
The people most at risk of COVID-19 in the Maldives are migrant workers living in deprived conditions in the Maldives. Thus far, the most numbers of positive cases have also been detected within this group. While a total of 1078 people have tested positive for the illness, 700 of them are migrant workers.
The police have said 33 labour quarters of expatriates have been identified and being monitored. People's movement is restricted in these places. However, there have some reports that the police have not been not properly patrolling some of the locations.
