COVID-19: Maldives' tally exceeds 500; one new recovery

Authorities have reported an additional recovery among COVID-19 patients in the Maldives.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said the new recovery brings the total number of recovered patients in the Maldives to 18.

519 people have tested positive for the virus in the Maldives thus far. This includes 343 foreigners and 176 locals. The country recorded one fatality earlier this week.

The first case of local transmission in a residential island was identified on April 15 in capital Male'. Since then, the number of infections have been rising rapidly. Last thursday, the archipelago recorded the highest number of infections within a single day with 191 new infections. 28 new cases were identified on Saturday.
