Five police officers test positive for COVID-19

Home Minister Imran Abdulla has stated that five police officers have tested positive for COVID-19 and that over 170 officers who had been in contact with the positive officers have been placed in quarantine.

In an interview given to a local TV channel Raajje TV, Minister Imran said having to place such a large number of frontline officers in quarantine will be a considerable challenge. He acknowledged that some, including police officers, must work in the frontlines in order to manage the current crisis despite the risks it pose.

Minister Imran further stated that security measures have been further strengthened and discussions are ongoing on the steps to be taken to ensure the safety of police officers.

Accommodation arrangements have been made for the police to stay at their workplace.
