The main private hospital in the capital Male’, ADK Hospital has acquired a PCR machine for COVID-19 testing and is ready to begin work.
The Maldives has recorded 955 positive cases and four COVID-19 fatalities until now. Authorities have warned that the number of COVID-19 in the Maldives could reach its peak within the next two weeks.
With only two machines that can test for COVID-19, the current testing capacity of 300-400 daily tests is insufficient to keep up with the rising number of cases. The government has announced that an additional machine will be available from May 17 under its efforts to step up testing capacity. The new machine will increase testing capacity to 600 - 650 daily tests.
Meanwhile, ADK Hospital on Wednesday said testing facilities will be available at the hospital within the next three days. According to ADK, the addition of their machine will increase the national testing capacity by an additional 100 tests.
NEOC’s spokesperson Mabrook Azeez earlier said the government is working to install Genexpert machines and other devices in the atolls.
