Over 60 health care professionals have tested positive for COVID-19 thus far, authorities have revealed.
The Health Emergency Operations Centre, HEOC on Saturday said a large number of healthcare professionals have tested positive for COVID-19, with most cases recorded last month.
During July, 37 health care professionals tested positive for the virus, the tally is now at 64, said HEOC. This includes doctors, nurses, technicians, radiographers and support staff, the centre said.
COVID-19 patients are treated at Dharumavantha Hospital in capital Male’, and in Hulhumale’ Medical Facility in its reclaimed suburbs. Staff at both facilities in addition to state-run IGMH in Male’ have tested positive for the virus. This includes healthcare professionals who were involved in treating a patient who passed away due to COVID-19.
Some health care professionals and staff at privately-run ADK Hospital and Tree Top Hospital have also tested positive for the virus. Tree Top Hospital was previously used as a COVID-19 treatment facility.
The Maldives has recorded 3,949 positive cases to date. The most recent death, which occurred late Saturday night has increased the toll to 17.
