Nearly 200 frontline workers have tested positive for COVID-19: NEOC

National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has revealed that 199 officials who were working in the frontline of the task force to combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic have tested positive for the virus in the Maldives.

NEOC – the multi-agency centre formed for the task of combating COVID-19 in the Maldives - holds news briefings twice daily to provide information about the arduous public health crisis.

In a news brief held by NEOC on Saturday, Dr Ibrahim Afzal provided information on the statics of the infected figures. As per the statistics, 199 frontline workers have tested positive for the illness thus far. Among the infected are numerous army and police officers, health sector employees, and some employees working in state-owned enterprises.

“Frontline workers are those working in the health department or those working in security, and those providing essential services”, said Dr Afzal.

Maldives has recorded 1078 cases of COVID-19 and four fatalities thus far.
