Maldives govt waives off visa fines

The government has waived off all fines incurred for late payment of visa fees.

A strict lockdown was imposed on Male' city on March 15 after the first case of COVID-19 was detected in the city.

Maldives Immigration said as all government offices have been closed as a precautionary measure against COVID-19 and due to the lockdown imposed on the Male' area, difficulties in paying the visa fees on time are understood. Therefore, no fines will be imposed on late payment of tourist visas, dependant visas, work visas and all other visas and visa extensions during the period, said Immigration. The exemption is applied on all visa payments due between March 19 until end of June.
