Daily COVID-19 stats: 24 new cases, 10 recoveries

Maldives on Monday recorded 24 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 new recoveries .

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the newly tested positive cases are of four Maldivians, 18 Bangladesh nationals and two Indians. This brings the total number of people who contracted coronavirus in the Maldives to 1395.

As of Monday, 154 people have recovered, and four COVID-19 related deaths have been recorded in the Maldives.

Since the average daily cases that test positive for COVID-19 have been decreasing, the government has decided to relieve some of the measures taken as a precaution to contain the virus. In that sense, congregational prayers in the mosques of unaffected islands have been allowed to resume after more than a month.

The Health Minister has hinted that the lockdown imposed on the Male’ region may be lifted after May 28. However, the minister indicated that the public health emergency declared in the Maldives could be extended.
