COVID-19: Maldives records 9 new cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that nine people tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

A total of 1850 people have tested positive for the virus in the Maldives, out of which the number of active cases are 1197. According to HPA, there are 1248 people in isolation facilities and 1484 people in quarantine facilities.

The country has recorded seven COVID-19 related deaths thus far; they are four locals and three Bangladeshi nationals.

The last COVID-19 related death occurred on Tuesday. The person was an 89-year-old woman from the island, Hdh. Vaikaradhoo. Before that, on Monday, a 54-year-old Bangladeshi nation passed away at the Tree Top Hospital, the COVID-19 treatment Center. These two deaths occurred within less than 24 hours.

All the local COVID-19 related fatalities were of elderly people.
