COVID-19: HPA amends guidelines on home quarantine

The government has amended the guideline on home-quarantine.

Recently, the government publicised a guideline on home-quarantine for people travelling back to other islands and arriving from overseas during the current lockdown of the capital Male region. The guideline came into effect on June 7.

As per the guideline that was developed by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), people will be placed in home-quarantine in the islands after they register with the respective island’s council office. The council will ensure that the house the person will be placed in home quarantine in meets the criteria mentioned in the guideline. The people will be transported to the islands at the expense of the government.

A person will be placed in home quarantine for 24 days. After 24 days, the person will be tested for COVID-19, and if the result comes back negative, he/she will be released from quarantine. Only those who do not display any symptom of COVID-19 will only be sent to islands for home quarantine.

Furthermore, among the Maldivians that arrive from the overseas people who wish to be placed in home-quarantine will be allowed to do so. In line with that, 153 locals that arrived from Sri Lanka on Wednesday have been placed in home-quarantine.
