Over 20,000 COVID-19 test kits in stock: Govt

National Emergency Operations Centre’s (NEOC) Spokesperson Mabrook Azeez has revealed that over 20,000 test kits of COVID-19 pandemic are still in the stock with the government.

The multi-agency Centre was formed to combat the current pandemic afflicting the world. Mabrook Azee is a political appointee who works as an Under Secretary at the President’s Office. He has been assigned as the government’s spokesperson in Maldives’s efforts to combat the virus.

The Maldives has received donations of test kits from various countries and organisations including the World Health Organization (WHO).

Mabrook said over 20,000 tests kits remain in the stock, including 7200 kits from a Chinese donation, and two other brands of CPR kits. He added that there are 5,000 kits of EG brand and 13,500 kits of MiRXES Fortitude brand.

Over 38,000 people have been tested for COVID-19 within the past 100 days since the detection of the first case of COVID-19 in the Maldives. That is a daily average of 600 to 800 tests. 2137 people have tested positive for the virus, out of which 1759 have now recovered.

The tests are conducted in the state’s main hospital IGMH, main private hospital, ADK, and at the police laboratory.
