101 samples collected from Male' prison come back negative

Maldives Correctional Service has revealed that 101 samples collected from Male Prison have come negative for COVID-19. The samples were collected due to a prison officer testing positive for the virus.

Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu said the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has informed the samples that were collected on June 21 have come back negative. The samples were collected from 70 officers and employees, 24 inmates and detainees, and 7 waiters.

Prior to the most recent round of testing, random samples were collected from prisons to ensure that the jails were free of the infection, and all samples came back negative at that time.
