National carrier to fly to Maavarulu from July 1

National airline, Maldivian has revealed that flights will operate to the airport developed in GDh. Maavarulu from July 1 onwards.

The airline has scheduled flights to Maavarulu Aiirport over two occasions, but the date was pushed back both times due to unforeseen circumstances. The most recent delay was due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions that were imposed in its response.

Maldivian Monday said the first flight to Maavarulu has been scheduled for July 1, and a one-way ticket costs MVR 827.

The development of Maavarulu Airport was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in 2018 by the previous administration. However, the implementation of the project was also delayed due to several reasons. ALthough the residents of GDh. Atoll had expressed concern on the delays in completing the airport, MTCC insists that the airport was completed ahead of the project completion date.

The first test flight landed at Maavarulu Airport in early March.
