Authorities have urged Maldivians to avoid traveling during the Eid Al-Adha holidays later this month.
Maldivians often travel to different islands across the country during the Eid holidays.
Speaking at a press conference held by the Heath Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC), Dr. Ahmed Shaheed said a large number of people are requesting to travel to local islands during the upcoming Eid holidays. However, the safest option would be to travel only for essential purposes and avoid traveling for other reasons, said the doctor.
“We are working very hard to ensure that the epidemic does not spread in the islands. The public must have the same mindset and avoid traveling for unnecessary purposes. Even if you travel to islands during the Eid holidays, a 14-day quarantine will still need to be completed by all travelers, and cannot return to Male’ before completing the quarantine period,” said Dr. Shaheed.
Eid this year falls on July 31. The holiday also coincides with the Independence Day holiday.
